Fishing in Angola

11 Days
Highlights Include:
  • Flamingo Lodge: Escape to this wonderful getaway, situated in a scenic setting against low cliffs on the beach near the mouth of the dry Rio dos Flamingos. This area of coast is at the northern extent of the Namib Desert. Flamingo Lodge is located in the middle of 70 km of uninhabited coast which supports virtually untouched fish populations by highly diverse desert landscapes containing some areas of special beauty.
  • Foz de Cunene: Witness this delightful contrast with the expansive desert, the lush vegetation that surrounds Foz do Cunene, where the river bisects the desert before entering the sea. You will sand dunes, rocky plains, thick riverine vegetation, salt marshes and the ocean. Witness the huge sand dunes, which fall precipitously into the sea. Fishing at Foz do Cunene is very popular, and worth the long drive through the Namib Desert and Iona National Park. See the plains littered with Welwitchias, and fascinating rock formations on the banks of a freshwater oasis.
  • Himba settlements: A highly skilled tribe of herders who anthropologists say are the most culturally intact on the African continent. They live in one of the world’s harshest environments. Distinctive for the ochre they put on their skin and traditional leather clothing.
  • Iona National Park: The largest national park in Angola. Experience the variety of desert and semi-desert ecosystems in Iona National Park, including mobile dunes along the coast, calcrete plains, desert grasslands, open woodland, arid shrub land and savannah. Iona Witness the parks unique flora, including the stunning Welwitschia Mirabilis (one of the world’s oldest living plants) and incredible rock formations.
  • Death Acre: The Death Acre (Doodsakker) is on the coast of Angola between Foz do Cunene and Tombua along the coast. Get you dose of adrenaline driving through this incredibly dangerous route. This route is extremely dangerous because the wave's crash against the dune face, and the only way through is low tide.
